Free Google Analytics

Wow, Google has released it’s Analytics stats package (previously Urchin) for free to AdWords advertisers.

I had previously been put off using Urchin because it cost $199 per month, but this is an interesting move from Google. Their thought is that it will tell website owners more about the performance of their sites, and presumably make them spend more on AdWords.

One thought that had crossed my mind is that it could also be a cunning way for them to gather more visitor data, but although I’m not a lawyer, there doesn’t seem to be anything in the terms & conditions that suggests they can use the data - maybe this will be cleared up by those of a more legal disposition.

h3. Update

Actually, it looks like this is available to non-AdWords users too (up to a maximum of 5 million page views).
