URL Length

A post at SEO Roundtable seems to dispell the myth that long URLs will prevent you from ranking well in the search engines.

As far as I had previously understood, URLs where the page appears to be buried deep in the site were bad (more than a couple of directories deep, for example). In fact, the post argues that it is more to do with the difficulty of getting to the page (i.e. number of clicks) than the number of directories the page appears to be in. If there is a link to the page from the homepage (and the homepage is regularly crawled), then the search engines will have no problem finding the page.
