Eye Tracking Data For Google Results

SearchEngineGuide has some more interesting data on an eye tracking survey conducted on Google search results.

There’s some information on the “Google Triangle” and reasons to stay “above-the-fold”:

bq. It starts in the upper left corner in the top sponsored ads and extends down to the top 4 or 5 organic results. It ends at the bottom of the results visible without scrolling. The Golden Triangle is seen by 80 to 100% of the visitors to the page. By contrast, listings below the fold and the side sponsored ads are seen by only 10 to 50% of visitors.

Plus there’s also mention of where it is best to be in the sponsored listings (top listings perform a lot better than those down the right-hand side).

Some images would have been nice, but I guess these can be found in the whitepaper that the article is based on.
