Inside Web Analytics
One of my more recent interesting blog finds has been Inside Web Analytics, written by the former Director of Marketing Analytics at Macromedia, Matt Belkin.
I’ve enjoyed Matt’s take on whether we should analyse visitors or unique visitors, in which he proposes we all concentrate on the number of visitors we receive on our sites, rather than uniques.
His reasons for using visitors?
- Visits are more accurate than Unique Visitors.
- Every Visit represents an opportunity to persuade or convert a visitor to a customer.
- Measuring visits is based on fairly established industry standards
His reasons for not using unique visitors are even more compelling, and I’d recommend you go and take a read of his site.
We’ve seen a substantial increase in the availability and discussion of stats for the average webmaster over the last 12 months, so it’s good to learn the opinions of someone who’s been using and analysing stats on a large scale.
